Sun over water

Deasil Energy

Deasil Energy is a limited company formed in 2007 to provide information and consultancy on sustainability in general and in particular the use and sustainability of energy.

What's a Deasil?

The company does not have anything to do with the fuel - unless asked to do so - or the jeans. The pronunciation is the same as for both.

Since the sun ultimately provides most of the energy that we use, both fossil and sustainable, it seemed appropriate to recognise that fact. The use of a Scottish name to do so recognises the company's proud west of Scotland roots.

'Deasil', also spelt 'deosil' and 'deashill', is an old Scots word meaning to turn in the direction of the sun. The meaning is also that of an old Scots welcome, whereby a person would walk around a visitor three times - clockwise in the northern hemisphere, anti-clockwise in the southern - following the path the sun takes across the sky. Historically, lands near the equator may have presented problems for Scots meeting people for the first time. So, a sunny welcome to you.

Sustainability

For the last decades thoughts about energy in the developed world have been very much about flipping switches and paying bills. In recent years concerns about global population growth, climate change, resource depletion and security of supply have raised awareness of the importance of energy in our everyday lives.

There is a plethora of information and opinions regarding these concerns already in the public domain. This website invites you to make up you own mind and develop informed opinions as to why sustainability is important.

The information and education sections of this site offer the opportunity to become informed about some of the issues, from a functional standpoint up to Masters level education and beyond if time is available.

Why both information and consultancy?

Sustainability often - but not always - makes financial sense. The consultancy and project sections assume potential clients - almost everyone - do not have the inclination or most often the time to explore higher degree options. These sections offer examples, and illustrate Deasil Energy's ability to offer informed advice.

Why can this dual approach work well? When a consultancy is retained by an informed client it increases the likelihood of a project which exceeds expectations.
