Do you, as a potential client, want to be ‘seen to be green’ or to ‘go green’? Why do you want to do either? Recycling is always a good idea, although not necessarily profitable for anyone other than the recycling company. Insulating a domestic or business premises, or installing low-energy lighting, may not sound like you're doing much for the world, but it all adds up and may do a great deal of good for your bank balance.

To a large extent, work with you as a client will be about distinguishing between what you need and what you want. If you want to go ahead without consultancy, please have a good look at the education, resource, and energy sections first. Investigate thoroughly, and consider at least some basic education. Please also remember that any energy technology installed on a domestic or business property (unless by a fully accredited installer) as a do-it-yourself project must be checked by an accredited installer before the property is sold.

Choosing a good consultant

If you choose to retain a consultant, get as many opinions as you can, look at the services offered and the prices for those services, the experience of the consultant, and discuss exactly what you want. Consultancy usually proceeds in a number of stages, and if one of those stages does not consider what you need make sure that you ask the question. If no particular or solid answer is forthcoming, consider switching consultants - they should be working only on your behalf.
